First off I hope you have all had a look at our latest video clip featuring the highlights from the RipCurl Padang Padang Cup main event.
Well I’m still hobbling around with my right knee giving me grief after the push bike stack but hopefully it is slowly getting better. Coming back up the steps at Uluwatu today didn’t seem to hurt me as much.
Yesterday the 7th, after the light and variable wind we had the previous day here in Bali we decided to take a risk and chance our luck at getting some waves up at Balian. Leaving home at 4.30am there wasn’t a breath of wind and things giving us a positive vibe. Tabanan, and still no wind. 30 minutes later we turned off the highway into Balian and were no sooner greeted with a 20knt S-SE wind totally blowing out any chance of a surf at Balian. After a quick breakfast and hoping that the wind would piss off, it didn’t. In fact it started to rain. No surfers in sight, except for a few expats wandering about.
Seeing as though we were already “up the coast” I was keen to go all the way and check out the situation at Medewi. Mostly just to say hello to all our friends up there. Medewi seemed to be picking up a little more swell than Balian with 3-4 footers breaking out the front but also messed up from the still fresh on shore wind. But there were plenty of International tourists in the area which was great to see. Even maybe 10 surfers in the water in the very very below average conditions.
Today the 8th and as it shows in our latest photo gallery we were down on the bukit at Uluwatu. At first glance it looked like wave height at Ulu was just about as small as it gets. Five minutes later there were 3-4ft sets breaking on Temples and on the Main Peak. Crowd wise I was surprised with the “user friendly” wave height that there would have been a lot more takers in the water. Only 60-70 surfers spread right through the line ups that stretch for almost a kilometer. Surfing conditions were clean and glassy with the early morning wind light and variable..
Weather wise today it’s back to standard hot and sunny Bali weather and by late morning the wind was back to the ESE.
Tomorrow’s Surf Forecast has the wave model showing a slight bump in size, not a real lot but hopefully just up a little on today. Early morning light and variable wind before the Tradey kicks late morning.
Changing dollars to Rupiah today, 1AU$=Rp10,075 — 1US$=Rp14,400
