Yesterday the 14th and we were back on the black sand again, it’s hard to go past a place you love to surf that usually always has like minded friendly surfers hey. I don’t know what happened but some fractional lapse or some kind of enigma happened and somehow we lost 400 out of the 500 photos Ketut shot. And of course it had to be the best photos according to Murphy’s Law. But believe me that stuff does happen once every year or two, I’ve been shooting photos and video’s since the late 70’s and there is no escaping it.

But you can sort of get the gist of conditions yesterday with wave height ranging in the 3-5ft class and the wind light and variable from the NW-W before dedicating to the W-SW by late morning. It’s been weird with early morning conditions pumping through almost non stop and then just before the tide bottoming out almost going flat. Then with the start of the run in tide pumping again but with the wind starting to turn to blow out.

This morning the 15th and my good friend over at the black sanded sea urchin riddled beach has texted through calling in small waves and hardly breaking. We were ready to head over there this morning at 5.15am but my good friend Jono called in sick with the dreaded Bali Belly so I decided to spend the day locally and maybe even a home cooked lunch later. But Ketut has trudged off over to Keramas, he has called through and at 7.15am wave height was a nice 4ft head to well over head high, off shore wind with 25 surfers already all over it. We will take extreme care downloading Ketut’s photo’s later when he gets back..

This afternoon’s update has a big blue sky but with the wind strong out of the W-WSW. Earlier this morning when I was down doing a surf check and seeing how our boat was sitting on it’s mooring there were some solid set waves pushing onto the Outer Reefs. Wave height was easily getting up into the head to triple head high class with Middle Reef attracting the biggest set waves. There was only a hand full of surfers in the water at Kuta reef and Airport left. No takers for Middle’s. Now at 3.30pm it’s still a warm 30C, humidity is at 72% and the wind fresh out of the WSW at 20km/h.

Weather wise out side it’s a mostly nice blue sky here in the Kuta area but I can see some cloud over to the SE around the Bukit / Nusa Dua area. Hopefully it will stay nice today. Temperature wise it is already 28C at 8.35am, humidity is at 84% with the wind light out of the NW at 11km/h.

Today’s tides had a 1.22mtr Low at 10.50am we are currently in the moons bugger all tidal range period with the following High tide at 5.30pm only 1.67mtrs. Tides are courtesy of my G-Shock GBX-100 which is growing on me real fast. Tides generated from Benoa Harbor.

Tomorrow’s Surf Forecast has the models predicting a slight bump in wave height on a similar period of 15 seconds as today from the SW quadrant. The wind is predicted to be out of the West from dawn but I’m hoping for a little more variable direction to kick off before dedicating to the West then WSW through the later part of the afternoon.

I’m not touching the long range forecast for now but the Indian ocean is looking active to say the least.

Yesterday afternoon around 5.30pm most of Bali if not all of the island felt the tremor’s from 6.6 magnitude earthquake that happened a long way from Bali of the big island of Java. I was down check the surf at Kuta Reef and even on the sand I could feel it for around 3 seconds, there was a slight tremor just before as well. Living in Bali as long as I have you get used to the odd tremor and silently pray that that is all it is.
