Unfortunately it’s not great news we are sharing – but Slim’s condition has deteriorated a lot of the last few days. He is surrounded by his family and is comfortable.
I sat with him last week and helped with getting this Gofundme setup for him, his primary concern is that Ayu, Ray and Amanda have some support to help them though some difficult times ahead.
I know many of us have experienced Slim and Ayu’s hospitality. Any support and messages would be appreciated.

Thanks for your post. Terrible news. Love Peace and Prayers to Slim’s family.
What a pioneer another loss for Bali
Saddened to hear the passing of a great friend and
a free spirit. Only reconnected in the last several months, having first met in the early 80’s.
Rest in peace. Condolences to his family.
Ion very much saddened by Slims passing
I hope his family stay strong and get through ok!
So sorry to ready this. Jim, you are a legend. In the early 2000’s, my friends and I looked forward to your posts from seven thousand miles away in wave starved Florida. We’d oogle and talk about the spreads like an anticipated issue of Sports Illustrated. Back then, never did I imagine that I’d learn Bali from you and come to call you a friend. Your hospitality and sense of humor are unmatched.
Will continue to stop by, see Ketut and help how I can. May you rest in peace brother. Thoughts and prayers for you and your family.
Sad by the news of JB‘s passing… He showed me only kindness through his life. I was hitchhiking around Australia in 1986 and he gave me a ride from Noosa to Newcastle to his home. I stayed with him and his mom for few weeks, he showed me complete Aloha, fed me Lemington’s and meat pies, and even got me into a snooker contest… We surfed flat rock. Rock and it’s a time of my life I will never forget!!
Thank you for showing the way around Bali. Will never forget your kindness and the no mucking around approach when it came to having a surf 🙂 RIP Big Slim.
