Balangan Surf Report – Sunday 13th September 2026
Ketut was down on the Bukit yesterday and pulled in at Balangan for a look, with wave height sitting in the 2 to 4 foot range through the day. Wind was offshore and strong right the way through, so the faces stayed clean and the waves were lining up across the reef without a bump on them. Crowd wise it was busy enough to notice, though Ketut said there were still plenty of waves getting through so nobody was sitting around waiting too long.
Ketut mentioned the offshore did not ease off at any stage, which is a good part of why it held together all day rather than going soft through the middle. Sunny the whole way as well with next to nothing about in the way of cloud. Balangan has always liked the water draining off it and that is exactly what it got, the tide pulling back through the afternoon and the waves standing up better for it across the middle section. With a long period behind the swell the sets came in bunches with a bit of a wait between them, but the ones that did come through were worth hanging on for. Busy but still good was how Ketut summed it up.
Weather & Tides
Right now it is sitting around 26C with the water about 24C, sunny and dry with nothing around in the way of rain. On the tides today, the water drained off through the afternoon down to a low at 5:18pm, which is the part of the cycle Balangan tends to prefer, before pushing back in to a high at 11:41pm tonight. It drains off again to a low at 5:47am tomorrow morning, then fills back over the reef to a high around 12:01pm, so an early start before that low bottoms out, or the back end of the morning as the water comes back in, are the two windows worth working around.
Surf Forecast
Looking ahead there is more swell coming rather than less. Monday is reading as the biggest of the run with 5 to 6 foot showing and a long period still on it, then it holds at around 5 foot through Tuesday and Wednesday before it starts to back off. Down on the Bukit that should mean a bit more size than Ketut had yesterday, so the more sheltered corners will be the safer pick if it comes in with any bulk. Winds are looking variable across that stretch, which puts the early mornings ahead of the rest before any local wind gets going. Worth a look at the swell forecast if you are planning the next few days around it.
