Balangan Surf Report – Friday 4th September 2026
Ketut was down at Balangan today and reported wave height sitting around the 3 foot mark on the lower tide, with the odd bigger one coming through on the better sets. The wind was offshore and blowing with a fair bit of strength behind it, which kept the faces clean and standing up across the reef. Crowd wise there were about 12 surfers out, so there was plenty of room to spread out and pick off waves without much competition for them.
Ketut mentioned the waves were lining up better once you sorted out the right spot, and with the water low early it was a bit shallow along the inside, so most of the crew were sitting a little wider on the takeoff. As the water started to fill in through the afternoon there was more depth over the reef and the waves had a bit more push in them without losing their shape. The offshore held right through, which is about as good as you can ask for down that way this time of year. Nothing too major in terms of size but plenty of waves getting through and still worth a look.
Weather & Tides
Right now it’s sitting around 25C with the water much the same, dry and sunny, and the offshore keeping it comfortable enough out there. On the tides today the high came in around 2:05pm before the water began draining off again, with the low due around 7:20pm this evening. The next high is not until about 2:15am, so the tide is on the drain through the back end of the day, which will keep the waves standing up on the inside but leave the reef a little shallow if you leave it too late.
Surf Forecast
Looking ahead there is a decent bit of size on the way. Saturday should come up into the 5 to 6 foot range with a longer period behind it, and Sunday looks like the pick of the weekend at around 6 foot as the swell keeps building. Monday is holding on at 5 to 6 foot before it starts to back off again. The winds are the thing to watch across the weekend, so early mornings will be the best call before the local wind gets going. Have a look at the swell forecast for the full picture.
