East Coast Surf Report – Thursday 17th September 2026
Ketut was back over on the East Coast early on Thursday and reported wave height sitting in the 2 to 3 foot range on the low tide. The wind was offshore first thing which kept the faces clean and had the waves lining up well enough for a look. Crowd wise there were around 20 surfers out, spread about rather than all sitting on the one peak, so there were still plenty of waves getting through for anyone who put the time in. Ketut mentioned it was a sunny day right through the morning.
The better part of it was early. Ketut reported the wind held good until about 9:30am before it swung onshore and put a bit of bump on the faces. Up until then the waves were clean and tidy with a decent gap between the sets, which is what you get with a longer period swell running in from the south west. Nothing too major size wise, but there were some fun waves about and a few slightly bigger ones on the better sets. Once the wind came onshore it went off the boil fairly quickly and the crowd started thinning out with it, so anyone who got down there for the early run got the best of it.
Weather & Tides
Right now (Saturday morning) it is sitting around 28C on the East Coast with sunny conditions and that onshore still about. Tide wise today the water was draining early, which is what had the waves sitting in that 2 to 3 foot range through Ketut’s check, before it started filling in towards a high around 2:09pm. From there it drains back to a low near 6:53pm before pushing back up to the next high around 1:59am. That afternoon push should leave a bit more water about for anyone heading down for a late look, though the wind will have the final say.
Surf Forecast
Looking ahead there is a bit more size on the way. Sunday is shaping up around 4 to 5 foot with a long period behind it, and Monday looks similar at 4 to 5 foot with the swell starting to ease back. Tuesday holds around 4 foot before it settles. Winds look variable over the next few days, so the early mornings will be the safer call before the local wind builds through the middle of the day, same as it did on Ketut’s check. Have a look at the swell forecast for the full picture on the coming days.
