East Coast Surf Report – Friday 11th September 2026
Ketut was back over on the East Coast early this morning and reported wave height sitting in the 3 to 4 foot range, a touch smaller than it has been through the week but clean enough to be worth the drive over. Wind was light offshore first thing which kept the faces tidy and had the waves lining up across the reef. Crowd wise there were only around 10 surfers out, mostly medium level guys, so there were plenty of waves getting through and nobody had to wait long for one.
Ketut mentioned the offshore held until about 9:30am before it started backing off, and that was the pick of the morning right there. Up until then the tide was still filling in with enough water moving over the reef to keep the waves lining up rather than running fat. Once the wind eased off the shape dropped away a little, though with the swell carrying a long period behind it there were still some decent sets coming through on the longer waits. Nothing too major out there but a few good ones about, and with the crowd that thin there was no need to fight for them.
Weather & Tides
Right now it is sitting around 27C and mostly warm with the water about 26C, so nothing more than boardshorts needed. On the tides today, the water was filling in through the early part of the morning up to a high around mid morning before draining back to a low at 4:25pm, which left the reef running a bit shallow through the afternoon. The next high is due around 10:46pm tonight, then it drains off again to a low at 4:39am before pushing back over the reef to a high at 10:57am tomorrow, so that mid morning window is the one to aim for again.
Surf Forecast
Looking ahead the swell is due to build rather than back off. Saturday should see it in the 4 to 5 foot range with a long period behind it, then Sunday looks like the pick of the run at 5 to 6 foot with even more period on it, before things settle back to around 5 foot on Monday. Winds are looking variable through that stretch, which means the early mornings will again be the safest call before any local wind builds through the middle of the day. Worth a look at the swell forecast for the full picture if you are planning the next few days around it.
