Wow well it’s been a pretty big, or I should say hectic last few days for the Slim. But we managed to get through it including another orbit of the Sun. My, but time does fly when you let your guard down.
Well right on track as predicted late yesterday afternoon you could see the change in the swell, more energy and frequency. The Outer reefs of Tuban / South Kuta were looking ok just before dark with 2-5ft waves breaking between Kuta Reef and Airport Left.
This morning’s surf check on the Outers re confirmed the new swell hitting Bali. So Ketut and I prepared our camera gear and waited for the tide to top out and start it’s runout before heading South to Uluwatu. We arrived around 10.00am thanks to relatively light bukit traffic for a change. It was a bit confusing crossing over the bridge on Padang Padang and seeing an almost flat ocean. Flat ocean and around 50 learners on the baby reef.
But as we got out first glimpse of Uluwatu and the Bomie breaking it was obvious the swell was solid. Only maybe 12 surfers riding the Main Peak and another half a dozen hard core riders down on dredging Temples. But by 11.00am and the tide dropping there was a big influx of surfers on The Peak and top of the Track. I’m not sure if it was the lower tide or the dropping swell attracting more crowd.
As it shows in today’s gallery wave height was hitting the Main Peak in the overhead to triple head high plus class and similar size bending onto Temples. We left just before midday and I think it might still be a little too big for the Racetrack on the low tide (0.2mtrs @ 3.41pm) but probably a few on the Outside Racetrack.
Weather wise there was a bit of cloud blowing in early before the sky dedicated to the blue. Temperature wise right now at 3.30pm the mercury is on 31C, Humidity is at 70%. Wind direction is coming fresh out of the ESE with gusts up to 12 knots.
Tomorrows surf Forecast is calling for wave height to be tapering off throughout the day. Light wind early before the ESE Tradewind kicks in. We should still have plenty of options here on the West Coast but the swell direction is SSW so probably better size over on the East side of the island if the wind holds back.
Alright that’s just about me for today it’s been a long day and I still haven’t downloaded Ketut’s video footage from this morning yet. The last few days I have been posting some short video clips on our baliwaves Face Book page, so check it out. I will try to get a new 4–5-minute clip edited up ASAP and loaded right here on the original Bali surf report website. Stay tuned!
