BALI SURF & WEATHER REPORT
11th October 2020
A BIG hello to everyone tuning in, and a SPECIAL hello to our friends that really know us and have shown us the much needed support through this extremely tough mentally and physically time. We are going into our 8th month of no income and I’m sure you would be able to work out how hard that would be. It is only through your help that we are keeping everything together keeping the lights on and food on the table.
We hope everyone is surviving the best they can, here at ground level in Bali it really is about survival for the average people. There is still plenty of cash getting thrown around in certain circles but your average Balinese family unit is really struggling, mine included.
I really don’t know where the last week or the last months have gone. Somehow this year is just rocketing on, but going no where at the same time. I did manage to get a little fishing time in but as Murphy’s Law predicts there has been hardly any fish about. Well not enough to warrant using a full tank of petrol chasing them anyway. I’ve taken my sons push bike for a few rides to help take my mind off stuff and this months push up count is on track to crack 1500. if I stay focused. Surf wise there have been a few waves on the Outer Reefs, but nothing special, the season is turning. There has been a few flat days and only since yesterday has the swell started to kick back in, the off shore ESE Trade wind is getting a little later each day and some day’s it hasn’t turned up at all. We are also starting to get more clouds in the sky and have had some heavy rain, good for the garden is one positive.
This morning Ray and I took a run up to Canggu to see if we could shoot a few photos and maybe even some video. The wind was light out of the NNW early so we were hopeful. But arriving up at Echo beach carpark at 7.30am to find chocolate brown water and some very messy and heavy looking 3-4 foot junk breaking between Echo and the Pererenan river mouth. There was 1 body boarder in the water, needless to say we didn’t hang around for too long. We didn’t spot one tourist wearing a face mask in the whole area, and no one doing any checks. Surfing conditions were clean enough at the Gu but the waves were just not cooperating.
Now at 10.45am the sky is starting to cloud up but still some patches of blue. The SE-ESE Trade wind has kicked in with gusts up to 20km/h. The temperature is a warm 29 degree’s Celsius, Humidity is at 93%.
The next tide today will be a 0.8mtr Low at 11.08am. BTW I’ve had my Tide master watch in at the RipCurl HP on Sunset Rd getting a fresh battery in her and great to have it back on my wrist, need that tide data. The crew in at RC do a great job servicing there brand tide watches. A new battery, glass clean and full pressure test (with guarantee) costs 10 bucks Aussie or Rp100K.
Tomorrows Surf Forecast is looking pretty much identical to that of today according to Buoyweathers daily forecast. But maybe expecting the Tradewind to be a little stronger out of the ESE-SE.
I’ll take a run down to the beach later this afternoon and post a video surf report on our facebook and instagram pages, so stay tuned to the baliwaves. Sorry if today’s info comes across a little depressing but that’s today’s vibe only, we are trying. Alright then we hope your Sunday is going well and here’s looking forward to a bigger and bright coming week for everyone.
On the Bali Corona Virus scene, it is still going strong and pretty much un checked. Mask wearing seems to be a personal choice, I still haven’t seen any enforcement. The National number of positive cases is growing and up between 4k-5K daily. Bali is doing a pretty consistent 80-100+ new positive cases per day and the death toll is sadly growing everyday.
At the start of the pandemic there were go fund me pages of every description from just about every country on the planet with all the supporters doing their best to help Bali and it’s folk stay afloat. But 10 months down the track and with still no immediate relief or end in sight a lot of these appeals seem to have run dry and most disappeared, but momentum gone. I’m seeing all the news coming out of Australia with Aussies having mental health issues, suicide rates up and people just can’t go on. (maybe it’s just the abc news network) That’s with the government handing out cash left right and center and all the mental health support that is humanly possible. There is none of that help available to any Indonesians as you already know. I’m seeing so many for rent and for sale signs around the island, hard times and then some..
Tomorrow is also the anniversary of the horrific and tragic bomb blast that tore through the the Sari Club (SC) and destroyed a large portion of jalan Legian the main street of Kuta and claimed too many innocent lives. Please spare a moment in memory.
