BALI SURF & WEATHER REPORT
29th december 2020
Hello folks and thanks again for tuning into the baliwaves, the original Bali surf report website since back in 1999. Ok as you know Bali is still in the grip of the virus pandemic and it really is squeezing the life out of this little island. Like almost everyone here our main concern has been to feed our families and try and cover what bills and living costs as best as possible. We really can’t thank our friends that have been helping my Family keep our heads above the rising water line. I have been spending most of my free time when the weather permits trying to catch fish, being a part of the Balinese fishing family here on the West Coast. So sorry for the lack of surf report and photo up dates. Hopefully 2021 will be more kind to Bali.
The last few days here along Bali’s West Coast wave height has been lucky to have been hitting the head high range. Yesterday morning on the Outer Reefs wave height was only just in the knee to waist high class, pretty much un surfable between Kuta Reef and Airport left. I haven’t been down the beach for a surf check as yet this morning but will get down there later this afternoon and will give you a video surf report. So keep an eye open in our Twitter or Instagram feeds in a few more hours time.
I had to take a day off from the open ocean fishing today after spending most of the last 4 days out there. Hard times with only 1 decent fish boated. Our fishing season is just about done for 2020 and I’ll be beaching the boat very soon now the weather is changing for the worse with the fresh on shore wind and ocean full of single use plastic flotsam and jetsam.
Yesterday morning we did have some very heavy rain and strong wind from 7am through till 9.30am (I was out in the boat..) and a few hours later you wouldn’t believe how much rubbish had been flushed out of the West Coast rivers in the ocean. From Canggu to Kuta it was just thick layers of mostly single use plastic, thick enough to stall an outboard motor. People who throw their rubbish into the rivers need some serious educating.
But anyway featuring in today’s photo gallery are some fun looking waves that my good old friend David (Wavey) Tinson shot at G-Land in 2009. This year with a lack of surfers at G-land the 2 main camps were mostly operating with only skeleton staff. So we were not getting our usual weekly surf up dates and photos.
Hopefully by next season when the wind is a constant off shore ESE and the camps are all open again, the situation will improve. Hopefully for that matter we will be able to again show you photos from all over Indo. Just for the record if G-Land is on your places to surf list feel free to drop us an email and we can help you out with any information on this insane location. Plus you know we will be able to get you there and save some serious money.
Weather wise tody it is mostly sunny for a nice change and outside right now at 12.20pm the temperature is a warm 29 degree’s Celsius. Although you could count on some showers around the island. Humidity level is at 75% and the wind is coming out of the SSW-SW at 15km/h.
The next tide today will be a 0.7mtr Low at 3.10pm and we also have a Full Moon rising tonight.
On the Bali Corona Virus situation a surge in new positive cases continues and I’d imagine this will continue with the large influx of domestic tourists from Java and surrounding islands visiting Bali for the Christmas New Year holiday. Starting from the 1st of January no westerners will be permitted to enter Indonesia through till January 14th. With the Government hoping to prevent the new strain of COVID 19 brought into Indonesia. There has also been a 5 day quarantine in Jakarta for all westerners entering Indonesia that started recently. Now if we can only get the Euro sect in the Canggu and beyond area of Bali to wear masks and to abide with the social distancing protocol we might get somewhere.
We also have another quick Surf Tale from our resident writer and another Sur Fitness article from our resident fitness guru on line so spend a few more minutes here with us and check em out.
Ok friends thanks again for tuning in and we wish every one good times, health and prosperity in the New Year.

The Govt. banning single use plastic is the only way fwd. Slim! I can remember fishing @ Jimbaran years ago (2000) & catching only plastic & it was dry season!
I agree Greg, but would be hard to change, instant noodles etc etc etc Indo runs on them
