BALI SURF & WEATHER REPORT
7th February 2021
Hi folks and thanks again for dropping into the baliwaves (the original Bali surf report website since back in 1999. We really are saddened that we can’t keep the on location daily report happening through these extremely hard times here in Bali, but we are doing our best. Sure, there are waves out there just about everyday of the year, somewhere in Bali is always pumping out waves.
But the problems are that firstly there is a pandemic happening and Bali has not been exempt from the sickness and deaths that goes with that kind of stuff. Then there’s been really bad weather and when you couple that up with having to buy petrol to find those good waves. Time is one thing we do have, but cash to burn on petrol we don’t I’m sorry. Keeping my family feed and the bills paid have been our No.1 priority, just like most average families here in Bali.
Times are very hard with no income for almost 1 year now.. If you could spare a dollar or two to help us out please hit up our PayPal link or drop us an email, thanks again.
Well I’m stoked so far today that our Sunday has kicked off with a fair blue sky here in the Kuta area of the island. Total contrast to yesterday’s dark brooding sky that threatened us with rain most of the day and eventually delivered late afternoon. The strong westerly wind we have also been getting hammered by has also left us this morning in exchange for a light and variable N-NW breeze. If Covid-19 wasn’t running pretty much uncontrolled and rampant here in Bali today could be one of those days that you just have to drag your family down the beach.
Surf wise there has been a nice spike in wave height around the island as we mentioned was forecasted in our last Bali update. News that Keramas was solid yesterday and I’m sure pumping again on this mornings 6.00am tide. There were even a few surfable waves this morning on Kuta Reef with the light wind and high tide. I’m hoping for more light wind again tomorrow morning so we can set the 1000mm lens up with a blue sky and light wind. Well, fingers crossed there is still plenty of North in the wind anyway.
Weather wise right now at 11.40am we still have a mostly blue sky here were are but I can see some big clouds down to the SE. Temperature wise the mercury is on 29 degree’s Celsius, Humidity is at 80%. The wind also seems to have drifted more to the West again.
Tomorrows surf forecast is saying that wave height should hold in the chest to well over head range on a 12 second period. Coupled with (fingers crossed) an early light NW-NNW wind freshening through out the morning.
Longer range forecast has wave height slowly backing off after tomorrow the 8th until around the 12th befor two back to back swells start to show. The first is estimated to show around the 15th and then a bigger swell arriving not long after that.
On the local community news there was a nasty fire in the beach side warungs of the Canggu / Pererenan Sandbar on the night of the 6th. Resulting in at least 2 of the local style warungs that cater mostly to surfers burnt to the ground. The locals have a strong community up there so I’m sure they will get them rebuilt and operational again soon we hope.
Today’s photo gallery is a mixture of photos from around the traps on both sides of the island, there time stamp was 2015 and I hope you enjoy them and maybe even recognise some of the people that are featured.
Bali’s Corona Virus saga continue to keep us on edge, yesterday there were reports of a 500 new cases spike and then today the news is of under 200 new cases. No news or certainty on when Bali will start getting vaccinated with the front line health workers still the main priority. So for safety sake everyone (regular folk) needs to keep following the government protocols and keep the face masks and social distancing in place. I think that’s going to the normal for most of us here for the rest of the year at least.
