Hello everyone and thanks again for staying tuned to the baliwaves (the original Bali surf report website since back in 1999).
Well, the last 10 days of having a surfer stay with us again was like a dream that came and went and now back to reality again. A reality of empty guest house and to start getting ready to try and catch some fish and keep my family with food. But it really was a great moral booster having our old family friend back with us in Bali. Hopefully more of our old mates will be making the trip back to Bali in the near future. For all of you that are not yet old friends feel free to come and experience what we have on offer here at our Surfer Guest House accommodation. We give a lot more to our guests than just a room email me for the run down.
On the 29th wave height had bumped up a little bit but the wind was mostly out of the W-WSW early and swell direction out of the SW. So, we settled for a few waves close to home at Airport left. Lucky for us that the wind forecasters had got it all wrong again and pretty soon surfing conditions had glassed right off with only h6-7 surfers in the lineup. As usual no matter where you may be there is always 1 dickhead that wants to paddle back to the inside after every wave and take the next set, even if they do surf like a kook. That session was no different.
Yesterday the 30th and with it being our old mates last day in Bali and the fact that he is a goofy footer. Not to mention a “prediction” of light off shore East wind we headed down to Uluwatu to give Jono a gluttony of perfect lefts. Uluwatu really turned it on yesterday with perfect waves hitting all of the main sections from the Racetrack while the tide was still low enough. Main Peak and Temples just kept getting better and better as the tide rolled in, and the wind was in deed light off shore glass.
With wave height in the 3-5ft (head to double head high plus) range it was a little bit daunting to see so many young lady learner surfers being pushed into waves. Boards being thrown in what looked like (self) lifesaving gestures and general over the falls like carnage… It’s going to get very interesting as we see well organized and very confident advanced surfers returning to their favorite surfing holiday destination. Especially after being pretty well locked out for so long. We will do our best to keep the camera’s rolling through it all.
Weather wise down at Uluwatu yesterday it was a dark grey overcast morning that eventually opened up to a nice sunny day around midday.
Today the 31st and I’m still in a bit of a shock and still in my pajamas, well shorts and tee shirt anyway. My standard Covid work uniform. I haven’t been down the beach for a surf check just yet (editing and typing also play their part). But I will pretty soon and I’ll be certain to post a Bali surf and weather video report on our baliwaves facebook page when I do. Just looking out the window it looks to me like the wind is light off shore (Easterly) and I’m sure there is some of that swell left to peel along perfect reefs, stay tuned.
Tomorrow’s Surf Forecast is calling for the wind to revert back to the W-WSW quadrant and for wave height to start dropping out. I think we still have a little more wet season left just yet.
FYI, the Aussie dollar is giving great value at well over Rp10,400 at all the money exchange outlets. While the US$ is just cracking the Rp14,000 mark. That’s more good incentive to get over to Bali ASAP

That’s awesome!! Can’t wipe the grin off your mate’s face in every pic. Any chance he (you?) could do a post on the semi-quarantine process of entering Bali now? Stay safe eh, great to see this!!
Hi Tom yes my old friend was so stoked to be back in Bali again. He really put in the hard yards to get here like. First drove over 600kms to brisbane airport then waited 4hrs for a flight to Melbourne. Then after a 11 hr wait in Melbourne airport with no shops etc open he then boarded a Jet Star flight to Bali. I reckon it must hav ebeen pretty tough on that Jet Star flight.. We did think about doing an article on the trials and tribulations of getting to Bali but we just didn’t get the chance. My friend was making the most of his 10 days and we were surfing all over the island at a different location almost everyday. Then there was the sunset beers before dinner, me I was in bed at 8.00pm everynight completely struffed. Also the criteria for entry and the “semiquarantine” changed the day after my friend arrived. The mandatory (selected) hotel booking requirement dropped down to just 1 day from 4 days. Hopefully the “semi quarantine” will be seen for what it is and soon a thing of the past.
Thanks Slim! No worries, Holy God with the kind of trek you friend had to make no wonder he was cramming as much surf and sunset beers in as he could in ten days! Thanks for the details, the bloody saga of getting there with the airlines is maybe more revealing about the trials and tribulations of entering Bali than the “semi” quarantine once there. Here’s hoping it is gone soon as well and the airlines straighten out!
