Ok so first up these photos we shot over on the East side of the island. The East coast really has been firing up and delivering some great waves the last week. The trick is knowing when to get over there.
From the East Coast we tried our luck spinning the “wheel of waves” and Canggu came up for the 6th as my friends really wanted to get up there for a look. Hoping that the predicted fresh ESE wind was holding up the right handers on the river mouth. I also wanted to go and see what was happening with the warungs along the beach. The surfers haven of beach side warungs have been exactly that since day 1 of the surfer / Bali relationship. Somewhere safe and comfy to hang out in before and after a surf. But it really does appear that they just might come to be a thing of the past. Demolition is under way of the surfers warungs along the beach front at Canggu / Pererenan as I type.
Back to the surf on the 6th and sadly it just wasn’t happening. The fresh ESE ended up being a howling cross / on shore SE’r. The waves were there but just pretty much blown out. My mates went out for a paddle in the 2-4ft mush. While we hung out in the fading shade of one of the last standing warungs drinking hot tea.
Yesterday the 7th and if you saw our Morning surf and weather video report I posted into our Facebook page there were a few waves about. The wind was stiff off shore out of the East yesterday with 2-4ft waves breaking between Kuta reef and Airport left. Early morning on the low tide the numbers were not too bad on the low tide sections. Then as the tide started to fill in it got kinda crazy on Kuta reef with around 40 surfers / learners in the water. But that has always been the norm out at KR for as long as I can remember. It’s a bit better when we get those early morning right tides and the dawny is the option.
This morning the 8th I was down doing a visual surf check, you remember what that was like ? I just thought I’d throw that in as with so many web cams around the globe most surfers just log into their favorite and do the surf check that way. But anyway, this morning at 8.00am there was still 2-4 footers breaking between Kuta reef and Airport Left. There were surfers on all breaks as the tide was still running out for a 0.9mtr Low scheduled for 11.30am. The only curve ball was that the wind was fresh out of the NNW.
Weather wise today it’s mostly blue sky as far as I can see in all directions. Right now at 10.25am the temp is on 27C and the Humidity at 68%. Noticably cooler this morning with a return to some normal Bali winter conditions. Wind direction is now out of the East at 6-19knot.
Tomorrows Surf Forecast is again calling for wave height to hol in the 2-4ft range but with the return of a more gusty off shore ESE Trade wind.

No kidding lol, well said Slim!
yes it’s true Tom, and the funny thing is even with all the webcams on both the west and east coasts of Bali haters are still blaming baliwaves for bringing crowds to Bali. Even though our guest house is going to be empty just about all July and half of August 🙂
I’m inbound mate! Work roster out – see you soon. Details via WhatsApp. Yeewww.
I wasn’t personally there pre-1999, but I’m sure Kuta Beach to Uluwatu were basically super downlow secret spots before Baliwaves was created, right? LOL. Read you got some guests for end of July, hope you get more Slim!!
